*Wéry Fernand
(1886 , Ixelles (BE) - Watermael-Boitsfort (BE), 1964 )
He painted figures, landscapes, genre scenes, still lifes and portraits. He was particularly interested in women and children. A pupil of C. Montald at the Brussels Academy of Fine Arts, he won several prizes, including the Oleffe prize. His style evolved from Fauvism, born of his friendship with Rik Wouters, to a Classicist style with reminiscences of painters such as Dürer and Cranach. From 1928 onwards, his brushstrokes became increasingly vigorous and he was once again tempted by a certain expressionism.
