Anto Carte Exhibition at Mons BAM
19 March - 21 August 2022
The exhibition Anto-Carte. Of earth and sky presents a virtuoso of the brush whose work weaves a fascinating link between the centuries. The legacy of the skills of the great masters of painting is expressed in the pictures painted in the first half of the 20th century by this artist from Montpellier, whose career was largely international.
Eighty works from public and private collections allow us to see Anto-Carte's painting through the prism of the aspiration to the sacred. The artist's greatest paintings revisit the classic themes of Christian iconography while celebrating the grandeur of the peasant world.
After having devoted two major retrospectives to him in 1945 and, most recently, in 1995, the BAM is offering this focus, through a more meditative itinerary. It is a real invitation to let go and fully immerse oneself in this spiritual universe.
